This spring the Medicare agency temporarily waived physician supervision requirements, allowing CRNAs to function to the full extent of their training and licensure during the COVID-19 public health emergency. Now, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has issued a Request for Information (RFI) to determine the costs and benefits of making this waiver and other policies put in place during the pandemic permanent.
The AANA has long fought to make the permanent removal of physician supervision a reality. After all, this is the right thing to do for our patients and our healthcare system. Now is the time to make your voice heard. By submitting a comment to HHS, you can help us get one step closer to permanently removing unnecessary and burdensome physician supervision requirements.

Instructions for Contacting HHS
1. Click here. You will see two active CRNA Advocacy Action Alerts, one to write to the VA and one to write to HHS. Click “Take Action” under the HHS alert. If you haven’t already submitted a comment to the VA, be sure to do that as well!
2. You will be directed to a pre-written letter. Be sure to personalize this letter to reflect your own experiences so that it is not seen as a “form letter.” Be sure to keep the tone positive and professional.
3. Click “send letter.”
4. Share the link with your family and friends so they can take action, too.
